Representative Experience

  • Represented Ball & Chain and Taquerias El Mexicano/Los Altos, affiliated with The Mad Room LLC, a Hospitality management company, in a federal suit against the City of Miami alleging violations of substantive and procedural due process, equal protection, unlawful searches and seizures, as well as other constitutional law violations. These were issues of first impression against a prominent municipality where the City developed and deployed a deliberate policy to abolish client’s fundamental protected rights to their property. Ultimately, the City of Miami Commission approved a $12.5 million payout (along with non-monetary benefits) to the firm’s clients.
  • Represented private investment firm and its affiliates in the property and casualty insurance space suing managing general agent and former director and officer for fraud and breaches of fiduciary duty in connection with $10 million insuring entity acquisition, regulatory approval, and $100 million funding. Secured jurisdictional rulings affirmed on appeal and partial summary judgment leading to multi-million dollar settlement.
  • Lead counsel representing six-time Grammy Award winner/Puerto Rican salsa singer in breach of contract claims against concert promoter, securing favorable settlement.
  • Represented Florida-based business and property owners opposed to gambling expansion and suing to invalidate unlawful federal agency action that allowed the unprecedented expansion of gambling throughout the State of Florida under the guise of granting the Seminole Tribe of Florida exclusive rights to, among other things, electronic wagering. Co-authored and filed an amicus brief petitioning writ of certiorari before the United States Supreme Court, after the DC Circuit reversed the District Court of Columbia’s initial decision to strike down the challenged gaming compact under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act and the Administrative Procedure Act at summary judgment.
  • Local counsel for global pharmaceutical company who sued 58 defendants to permanently halt defendants’ schemes to steal tens of millions of dollars from a charitable endeavor funded by the client that provides eligible uninsured persons with free medication to help protect them from becoming infected with HIV.
  • Represented department store chain in consumer protection lawsuit by California Attorney General’s Office and defeated a bet-the-company preliminary injunction request alleging false advertisement and unfair competition law violations.
  • Secured dismissal of claims against business debt restructuring servicers for alleged intentional interference with contractual relations and unfair competition claims.
  • Secured dismissal of claims against national manufacturing company in a price fixing and market allocation antitrust class action.
  • Defended one of the nation’s leading wealth management firms in FINRA-related proceedings and defeated a motion to compel arbitration in the Ninth Circuit.

Pro bono

  • Co-authored and filed an amicus brief filed before the United States Supreme Court in the case of United States v. Skrmetti, where the Court will consider during the 2024-2025 term whether the Tennessee ban on gender-affirming care for minors violates the United States Constitution. Coral worked alongside a group of clinicians, methodologists, researchers, and guideline developers that served as amicus in a brief highlighting the methodological strength and rigorous process behind World Professional Association for Transgender Health’s Standard of Care Version 8.  This medical guideline provides the standard of care for gender-affirming care for adolescents and adults.
  • Co-authored an appellate brief before the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit representing an inmate in the custody of the Florida Department of Corrections who sued various prison officials for violations of the United States Constitution. His claims arose from a series of events relating to his hospitalization at a medical center for documented medical issues while in custody.
  • Represented three separate unaccompanied minors as “Special Immigrant Juveniles” alongside KIND (Kids in Need of Defense), and the Los Angeles Public Counsel, securing all three minors a path to United States citizenship.
  • Other pro bono matters during her tenure in California include representing minors seeking asylum in immigration court and USCIS proceedings, and negotiating settlement in unlawful detainer case erasing clients’ $7,800 debt in past rents due.
